Did you know that smoothies can make a healthy breakfast if you have a good balance of ingredients and nutrients, including protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats. Always try to add at least one vegetable to your smoothie this instantly cuts down on sugar and increases the fiber content. Adding yogurt, avocado or a banana helps make your smoothie more filling and creamy, so you'll stay satisfied longer. Just be sure to choose varieties of yogurt that have little to no sugar and have zero artificial ingredients.
The liquid bases you use in your smoothie also play a big role. Skip fruit juices, which are packed with sugar and lack protein and fat, and go for milk or an unsweetened, non-dairy milk alternative, like almond, coconut, or cashew.
If you're looking to put your own blender to use and start making smoothies at home, you're already one step ahead of the pack, saving yourself money and ensuring you have full control over what goes into it. Most smoothies you buy at the grocery store are packed with sugar, colorants and preservatives and cost a hefty penny.
I enjoy a smoothie every day, but I make sure it has a good balance of nutrients. Like this delicious, healthy smoothie made with the right amounts of fruit, vegetables, milk, immune-boosting avocado, kiwi, and other nutritious ingredients for this time of year.

One Cup Wonder - Morning Smoothie
3 cups chilled water or nonfat milk, homemade almond milk or coconut milk
1 cup blackberries
1 cup blueberries
1 cup spinach
1 kiwi peeled and roughly chopped
½ avocado, peeled and stone removed
¼ cup almonds
Blend all of the ingredients in your vitamix or blender to a consistency you like. Make extra and store in the refrigerator so they're ready when you need a quick snack or breakfast on the go.
