Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the Institute for Functional Medicine's Autoimmune conference in Florida. The speaker list was a who's who in the cutting edge world of autoimmune disease understanding. To say that I was inspired is a significant understatement. My personal favorite, Dr. Alessio Fasano, gave a rousing talk about the microbiome and immune function. During the talk, he discussed how the first 1000 days of life for a child are critical as it is the time to which the intestinal
microbiome becomes fully established. If this occurs according to plan, we can live with limited disease risk. If not, ......
After the conference, I took a walk on the beach and while listening to a favorite song, I had an epiphany. I would like to write an ebook about these first 1000 days. To my dismay, I later learned that it has already been written. While the 1000 days organization and book are of good quality in my quick perusal of the website, it is likely not as complete as the functional medicine approach to disease avoidance and future health. Therefore, I am not going to read the book as it may jade my thoughts and approach. I am going to write my version of the story.
Two issues have arisen. 1) I need a new title. 2) I want to write this in real time as part of the newsletter.
My goal is to have a new working title by the end of the book.
My first thought is The First 2000 days for your love.
I am also going to try something very different. Derek Sivers, author of Anything You Want, has an interesting way of getting feedback on his content. He emails a select group of people to review his work before publishing and then makes changes as he sees fit. As I have really enjoyed this process with him, I am going to try the same with you all.
Over the next X number of weeks, I am going to put my spin on the beginnings of life and what I think resonates with our best health outcomes based on the science and philosophy of life. I am asking anyone that is interested in this project to email me any comments at anytime. I really want the criticism. It will allow me to put out the best product in the end. I want to leverage the collective mental capacity of you and the thousands of other readers.
This is going to be an organic and growing ebook that by the end, I hope, will be worthy of your consumption. It will be free and open to all. There is something very liberating and exciting about this project for me. Giving back to others is such a joy and with your help, we are going to give away a lot of information for the betterment of mankind. Over the next decade of time, as new information arises, we can add and delete information from this book to keep it fluid and cutting edge.
In this book, I want to explore the time from before a mother chooses to conceive to the child's age of 2 and a half. This is actually much more than a 1000 days, however, as you will see many of the risks to a bad outcome come well before conception and also de facto live birth.
